ABOUT
Understand where things came from, and see what’s happening now.
Continued is an ongoing record of how the internet developed and what the work behind it looks like. We care about how each stage of the internet took shape, and about the people who keep it running — what they do every day.
Think of this content as a tree: the history of the internet is the trunk, the day-to-day of each role is a branch, and how roles evolve is the canopy. Security, privacy, and law run through it all. The focus is understanding the industry and documenting the work — not job hunting, internships, or campus recruiting.
About this demo
This is the final design demo. Era content comes from edited drafts; where a source link is shown, you can hover to preview it. The day-to-day of each role is a composite example. Articles and figures marked “sample” are placeholders, not statements of fact. The topology nodes in acts 2–4 on the home page are illustrative, not a real network topology.
Data sources
- Eras, events, and the security & law thread: our edited drafts (eras-draft); the source link is authoritative.
- RFC titles, authors, and dates: our RFC index rfc_index.csv (from the RFC Editor).
- Law names, versions, and dates: our law index laws_index.csv.
- Paper titles, authors, dates, abstracts, and categories: our arXiv paper catalog (arXiv metadata). The papers page, the Evolution grid, and the role charts all count from this one list. The papers page shows only metadata and links to arXiv; it does not embed PDFs.
- Home-page topology: the act 1 ARPANET nodes and links are real history; map data is from Natural Earth (public domain).
